About Me

Who am I? Ah, the question of all questions. My name is Christina Hart. I have a BA in Creative Writing and English. I’ve self-published three books: one poetry collection, All the Unknown Colors, a quirky, offbeat romance, Nothing Fantastically Absurd, and an esoteric fiction novella, Lora & Isabel: A Lone Novelle, which is literary fiction. I just finished a YA fantasy trilogy which I’m seeking representation for (any takers?) I’ve been interviewed in the local newspaper and twice on the radio station WRNJ in New Jersey. I’ve worked for two online women’s magazines, Lip Gloss Culture and Astoria Woman, and I’ve also worked as a blogger for Brood Sugar. I’ve done guest articles for several sites and I’ve also worked as a copywriter for Century 21 Stores. Currently, I work as a press release writer and will soon be teaching creative writing to children.

I write fantasy, literary fiction, quirky off-beat “stuff”, short stories, and poetry. While I consider myself a sort of genre hopper, I’m currently stuck in fantasy mode. I just finished writing a YA fantasy trilogy and am just now starting my next novel (involving vampires). But does any of this answer the question ‘who am I?’ I’m 26 years old. I live in New Jersey, but I don’t believe I have a Jersey accent. I’m a writer. I’m a woman. But who am I as a writer?

I was drawn to writing fantasy in the first place because I enjoy the genre so much, both in books and film. I like the mystical and folklore elements to it and thinking that there are wondrous things out there that could possibly exist and perhaps we are just unaware and unenlightened due to lack of personal experience. I’ve had paranormal experiences myself, and so I strongly believe in forces outside our realm. I enjoy the idea of giving people another world to temporarily escape into. I like the idea of giving them fun, magic, and danger. I like the fact that someone can read fantasy and then start appreciating their own world and the beauty in it a little bit more.

My stories are unique because I make my characters real people, even if it’s fantasy. I make them flawed. I make them human. I make them relatable and real. I keep honesty alive in all my work, and I try to drive the point home that truth is vital to surviving. The main element that drives me is the fact that there are so many words out there, so many, all I have to do is put some together and try to make it sound beautiful. If I can write one sentence that makes someone smile, or feel that unexplainable feeling of sadness or warmth you can get from such a sentence, then it’s all been worth it. I write to free the lessons I’ve yet to learn. I write characters people can relate to so they know they’re not alone. I write stories meant to move people, including myself. I write because I have to. It’s just something that must be done. Forever. It’s never enough. There’s always another story that must be written.
